Product Engineering and Learning Leadership, currently in CivicTech

About This Site

I’m Steve, you can also find me at http://monkinetic.blog - when the site is working (it’s in a bit of a mess right now).

I’m a software engineer, occasional musician, and new hire at $COMPANY

I’m starting a new role at a new $COMPANY, and since I’ve been blogging on and off since the dawn of time, my favorite way to get into something new is to write about it (sometimes I even keep going after the new has worn off).

Work with Care is not so much a blog about working at $COMPANY but about learning a new industry and growing into a new role with more leadership responsibilities, mixed with sharing about my successes – and mistakes – in a way that I hope you connect with.

So, the Name?

Look I have a design degree and it sneaks into just, everything. I’m a huge fan of pre- and post-war art and graphic design, and particularly the posters of the Works Progress Administration from the 30s and 40s.

So browsing through the Library of Congress’ collection of posters, I ran across this poster:

Many of these posters had multiple versions, this one had a blue version I liked a bit better:

And this became the inspiration for the name and the design of the site. WORK with CARE has so many great connotations that resound with me, relating to working in tech obviously, “move carefully and fix things”, and doing the work to learn how to understand and care for those on our teams.
